A 7-Day Northern Tanzania Safari Itinerary

Elephant herd moving through dry Tanzania savanna

Seven days is an excellent amount of time for a first northern Tanzania safari. It allows you to connect four celebrated destinations without spending every day rushing between them.

Day 1: Arusha and safari briefing

Arrive, settle in, and meet your guide. This is the time to review the route, dietary needs, and what to keep in your day bag.

Day 2: Tarangire National Park

Travel to Tarangire, known for elephants, baobabs, and the life drawn to the Tarangire River. Enjoy an afternoon drive and overnight near the park.

Day 3: Lake Manyara

Explore groundwater forest, woodland, and the lake-edge habitat. The compact park offers striking scenery and a useful contrast to the open plains ahead.

Days 4 and 5: Serengeti

Drive into the Serengeti and devote two days to its immense landscapes. Your guide will choose areas according to current wildlife movements, road conditions, and recent sightings.

Day 6: Ngorongoro highlands

Enjoy a final Serengeti drive before continuing toward the crater rim. The journey itself provides changing views and possible wildlife encounters.

Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater

Descend early for a crater-floor game drive, then return toward Arusha. The day is often a memorable finale thanks to the crater’s diverse habitats and wildlife density.

Make it your own

This route can be adapted with extra Serengeti nights, cultural activities, upgraded accommodation, or seasonal adjustments. Our seven-day northern circuit trip provides a strong starting point for a private itinerary.
