Good safari packing is about comfort, layers, and keeping luggage manageable. You do not need an entirely new wardrobe; a few versatile items will serve you well.
Clothing
- Lightweight neutral shirts and trousers
- A fleece or warm jacket for early mornings
- A light rain jacket
- Comfortable closed shoes and sandals
- A wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses
Avoid very bright colours and camouflage clothing. Laundry may be available at lodges, making it easier to pack lightly.
Documents and money
- Passport and required travel documents
- Travel insurance details
- Copies of important documents
- Bank cards and some cash for tips and small purchases
Health and personal items
Bring prescription medication in original packaging, sunscreen, insect repellent, lip balm, and a compact personal first-aid kit. Consult a qualified travel-health professional well before departure for advice suited to your circumstances.
Photography and electronics
Binoculars transform wildlife viewing. Bring your camera, spare batteries, memory cards, chargers, and a power bank. A zoom lens is helpful, but a phone or simple camera can still capture wonderful memories.
Luggage
A soft-sided duffel is easier to load into safari vehicles and may be required on light aircraft. Keep valuables, medication, documents, and one change of clothes in your carry-on bag.
Before departure, we provide trip-specific guidance based on your season, accommodation, and route.
